Hyperlocal reporting of council meetings: Who’s doing what

As has been plastered all over the internet recently, Eric Pickles of CLG has told councils to let hyperlocal bloggers tweet as well as film council proceedings.

Brilliant news! I suspect that some hyperlocal sites will still face barriers though, so I thought it a good idea to draw up a resource of those hyperlocal sites already doing as-it-happens (live) reporting of meetings. If I’ve missed you, please let me know in the comments!

I’ve been live-tweeting Southwark full council meetings for a while at

I recently tweeted from a Town Council planning meeting which included comments & discussions from members of the public. I then put my tweets online but felt I shouldn’t include other people’s tweets in the article. I did ask their permission to use the image. http://bit.ly/e3sVQp

Hi, I am a member of Mid Devon District Council, at the last Council meeting I asked permission before the meeting to record part of the meeting on my mobile so that I could later post on a social media site. The request was refused and the minutes show that the Council would have to decide whether to allow recording etc. A report will have to be submitted to the Cabinet…I think its planned for March. I was only going to record myself asking a question! The minutes of the meeting held on 2/11/11 are on the MDDC website…..in the agenda for 11/1/12 meeting.
