I’d like to take a moment to introduce you to a brand new pilot scheme for Hyperlocal blogs…. Newswaves!
What is Newswaves?
Newswaves is a completely free news agency for Hyperlocal blogs. It’s run by three journalism students from Birmingham City University (including myself), and we’ve created Newswaves for our final year dissertation project.
As a Hyperlocal blog owner, if you want a story on your patch covered or just want to add multimedia elements to your site, then that’s what Newswaves is there for. Simply email us and we’ll do our best to help you out. Your request could be a simple as a picture of a certain building.
Why Hyperlocal?
At Newswaves, we know how important Hyperlocal blogs are to communities and what a great service they provide, but sadly not everybody else does. We want to help drive traffic to Hyperlocal blogs and show why they’re so important, by helping to make them the best they can be.
Most people start Hyperlocal blogs purely because of their love of the area and run them as a hobby, meaning that they don’t always have the time or the means to cover all the stories they’d like to; that’s where the Newswaves team come in.
The Team
There’s three of us on the team: Vicky Elmore, Head of Features; Sian Jones, Head of Editing and myself, Laura Hogan, Head of Mulitmedia. We’re under the watchful eye of Bournville Village editor Dave Harte.
How’s Newswaves doing?
Currently, we’re working on some exciting projects for Digbeth is Good, so we’ve got our investigation hats on for that. We’re also in talks with B72 about covering the Great Midlands Fun Run and we’ve got a couple more blogs on board, but we’re keeping those top secret for now!
Any questions? or Require our assistance? just ask!
